Geode: Installation at Champlain College
In September 2017, I worked with freshman students at Champlain College, VT, in collaboration with the Peace Paper Project, to create lantern structures for a visual light installation in the Champlain College Art Gallery. After making their hand-made paper from items of clothing, letters, paper fragments and natural materials, students created 3D structures from willow, which were later clad with the paper, and illuminated from within. The work was inspired by the Geode; a naturally forming crystal structure which appears as an unassuming rock from the outside, but reveals a hidden and glorious mineral cavity within.
